Charity Work and Donations
Yorkshire
Coast Morris actively collects money for charities during the summer.
This takes the form of dance-outs around Scarborough and District,
including such places as Whitby, Filey and Malton.
Every year, the team has a discussion as to which charities to donate the collections from the summer. Many local charities within Scarborough and surrounding area have been supported within the last few years, including Scarborough Emmaus, Mencap, The Tuberous Sclerosis Assn. and St Catherine's Hospice.
During the summer, the team also dances
at fund-raising events for local charities and schools, including
school fetes and garden parties.
"What the papers say: Members
of the Yorkshire Coast Morris Team have danced their way to success by
raising hundreds of pounds for a national children’s charity. The
Morris dancers have donated £600 to the Whizz Kidz charity after a
successful year of fundraising.
Every year the dancers collect
money at various dancing and fundraising events. At the end of the year
they chose a charity to receive the proceeds. They decided to donate to
the Whizz Kidz charity which helps disabled children by providing
necessary equipment.
Julia Cunningham, a dancer with the
Yorkshire Coast Morris and a physiotherapist for Whizz Kidz said: “This
is a great amount of money to raise and Whizz Kidz is a very worthy
charity. We had a busy year last year and we took part in plenty of
events. We are now hoping for another successful year.” Members of the
Yorkshire Coast Morris presented a cheque to Rebecca Overfield, 17, who
received the money on behalf of the charity."
